Solar for the Community

Public sector organisations (such as schools, housing associations and local authorities) and charitable bodies can apply for grants of up to 50% of the direct installation costs under Phase 2 of the Low Carbon Buildings Programme. To obtain a Phase 2 grant you need to have a contract with one of the three appointed ‘framework suppliers’ for solar PV. We are a registered installer with one of the framework suppliers, Solarcentury, so while you will contract with Solarcentury, we have an arrangement with Solarcentury and the BRE, the administrators of the grant, that for all practical purposes you can deal with us directly. For more information see: http: http://www.lowcarbonbuildingsphase2.org.uk.

Schools

PV is especially suited to schools as there are educational benefits in addition to environmental ones. It provides a great opportunity to make future generations aware of the potential of solar electricity. To help with using the system for demonstration purposes we can install a display unit to show the current output of the system, the cumulative generation since the system was installed and the associated carbon dioxide savings.

The Chelsfield Solar team has been involved in many school projects and we are keen to continue the trend. To this end, we will arrange a session with teaching staff as an introduction to PV.

Churches and community centres

If you would like to reduce the carbon footprint of your church or community centre a solar PV system may be the solution. We have installed PV systems on buildings ranging from a medieval church to brand new modern buildings; contact us to see what is feasible for your church or community centre!

Housing Associations

Many Housing Associations are turning to PV because it has long-term benefits in the struggle against fuel poverty.

Housing Associations also have the unique advantage of carrying out regular roofing maintenance. This means that some of the costs e.g. scaffolding, can be reduced when PV is incorporated into the maintenance programme.

Among our projects we have installed PV systems for Battersea Dogs Home (London), BT Goonhilly Visitor Centre (Cornwall), The EcoPod (Elephant & Castle), Colchester 6th Form College and St Nicholas Church (next to Rochester Cathedral) to name a few. Below are a few photos of a selection of these.
